This fall, all third-grade classes in the Castro Valley School District are invited to visit the Adobe Center for a special educational experience presented by the Castro Valley History Museum.
Students will journey through time—from the lives of the Ohlone people to the vibrant community we know today—through interactive exhibits, storytelling, and hands-on learning.
The Castro Valley History Museum has poured tremendous effort into creating a program that is not only educational, but also fun, memorable, and deeply meaningful.
Let’s inspire the next generation to discover and preserve the history that makes Castro Valley unique.
From October 16th to December 16 on Tuesdays and Thursdays at either 10:00 am or 1:00pm, 3rd grade classes within Castro Valley School District can schedule their class to come to the Adobe Art Center on San Miguel Ave to view a historical slide show created by Lucille Lorge, Castro Valley Historian, in collaboration with the Castro Valley History Museum.
Retired teachers from the Castro Valley School District—now serving as volunteer docents—will be presenting a special history program for your class. This engaging lesson will take students on a journey from the time of the Ohlone people to present-day Castro Valley.
Students will explore authentic museum exhibits, hear stories from our town’s past, play a seek and find worksheet to engage students as they view the exhibits, and participate in hands-on learning. Each class will receive educational worksheets and fun coloring pages to continue the experience back in the classroom at your own pace. Also a copy of the "Images of America Castro Valley" will be given to each classroom who attends.
This program is designed to enrich our 3rd grade curriculum and help keep Castro Valley’s history alive for future generations.
Presented in partnership with the Castro Valley History Museum.
Today was "launch" day for the Castro Valley History Museum's 3rd Grade Program! All third grade teachers in Castro Valley were given invitations to take advantage of this wonderful FREE field trip. The museum is temporarily located at the Adobe Art Center on San Miguel. The program involves an hour long PowerPoint, narrated by retired and substitute teachers from Castro Valley. It follows a timeline from when the Ohlone Indians first arrived, highlighting the discovery of gold, Castro's story and our claim to fame...the "chicken ranching era!" It is filled with fascinating tidbits of information about this community.
Field trips will continue through October and November and resume again in February and March.
